Matthew obtained an MA in Natural Sciences from the University of Cambridge where he majored in physical chemistry. He subsequently obtained a Master of Research (with distinction) from the University of St. Andrews where he conducted research into the (bio)remediation of polluted soils. Matthew qualified as a European Patent Attorney in 2002 and has been engaged in private practice in the Netherlands since 2005. He joined De Vries & Metman in 2013. 

Matthew’s field of expertise includes: coatings, adhesives, sealants, polymer synthesis, heterogeneous catalysis, food science, environmental technology, bio-fuels, and materials science.
